APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Work is underway to find a new home for “The Collective,” a sculpture which has drawn some criticisms from its neighbors.
“The Collective,” created by Paul Bobrowitz, is made from propane tanks. Each tank looks like a face and is assembled together to create a head. It is located on E. College Avenue and was originally scheduled to be there for two years.
The city’s Municipal Services Committee recommended removing it, but the full City Council sent the issue back to the committee. The committee met again Monday but did not take any action.
Alex Schultz, executive director of Sculpture Valley, says the organization is hoping to move it to another piece of public property or to private property, somewhere nearby.
“We are eager to find a remedy that makes everyone happy, though Council could still vote to deny the motion out of committee and move to keep the sculpture where it is,” Schultz said in an email to FOX 11.
A privately-owned site has been identified as a possibility, but Schultz said until a deal is in place, he isn’t disclosing the exact location.
There is no set timeline for when a decision will be made, or when the sculpture could be moved. It will cost about $2,000 to move it, but it has not been determined who would pay for it, he said.
