GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Whether it’s the flu or coronavirus, hospitals around the area have precautions in place to prevent the spread of the viruses through their buildings and the community.
“If you’re too sick to go to work, then you shouldn’t be visiting. We have posters out for that right now because we have such a high flu rate,” says Bellin Health Infection Prevention Specialist Lori Notz, “If you’re sick and you need to come in to see a doctor, make sure that you’re wearing a mask when you come in.”
Most hospitals provide masks at the front desk.
As the flu season continues, concerns are beginning to rise about widespread viral infections. There are tips on how to take care of yourself.
“Make sure that if you have any signs of cough, fever, that type of thing – that you’re performing hand hygiene, covering your cough, staying home if you don’t feel well, and for influenza – get your vaccine,” Notz tells WTAQ News, “When we see an influx of things, we do put signage out for people visiting so they remember to cover your cough or wear a mask.”
For those concerned about something like coronavirus,
“Outbreaks like novel coronavirus, we do get our directions from the CDC and Wisconsin Department of Public Health. They keep us updated, and whenever they have something new for us we are taking their recommendations on what we should be doing,” Notz says.
The CDC reports the risk of a coronavirus outbreak among the public in the US is still considered ‘low’.
