OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – There was a packed courtroom in Winnebago County on Thursday, as the Oshkosh West High School student accused of stabbing the school resource officer made an appearance.
17-year old Grant Fuhrman is now set to stand trial on a count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide after stabbing Officer Michael Wissink, who then shot Fuhrman in the chest. That incident caused the evacuation of the high school, along with lockdowns at other nearby schools.
Fuhrman’s mother, Tina, was in attendance – along with many others.
“I’m getting so much support from the community, family, and friends. It’s so heartwarming and it’s good to see so many people are supportive,” Tina Fuhrman says, “He’s loved and supported by so many people. He’s a good kid.”
Meanwhile, Fuhrman’s attorney Chadwick Kaehne says there is a lot to unpack in this case.
“We’re still trying to gather facts. We’re still trying to get reports from the state and really piece together this puzzle,” Kaehne says, “Grant is very scared and very confused at this time.”
If convicted, Fuhrman faces up to 60 years in prison. He is due back in court on February 19th.
