GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering after being dragged while hanging from an OWI suspect’s vehicle on Monday.
Deputy John Rapp pulled over Stephanie Verbeten’s vehicle on Interstate 41 at around 1:30 a.m. when Verbeten allegedly started driving off while Rapp was attempting to take the keys out of the vehicle’s ignition. Rapp freed himself after being dragged for about 15 feet.
Rapp suffered injuries to his right arm, left shoulder, and left knee. Verbeten drove about four miles on I-41 before pulling over a second time on the exit ramp to County Highway U, according to the complaint. Verbeten again refused officer commands, but was eventually taken into custody after a Taser was used three times.
The complaint shows officers administered two doses of Narcan at the scene, because Verbeten became unresponsive after her arrest. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to online jail records, Verbeten is out of jail after posting a $3,500 bond.
