GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — President Donald Trump would be in a close fight with whoever the Democratic Party nominates for President later this year if a new poll from Marquette University Law School holds.
The poll has Trump narrowly losing to former Vice President Joe Biden, 47% to 46% and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders 47% to 46%. He beats Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren 48% to 45% and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg 46% to 44% in the Wednesday poll.
It’s the first time in almost two years that the President’s dissaproval rating in Wisconsin has dropped below 50%. The latest poll has 48% of Wisconsinites approving of the President’s job, while 49% disapprove.
Biden remains the first choice for Wisconsin’s Democratic party primary voters at 23%. Sanders ranks second at 19% with Pete Buttigieg and Elizabether Warren in third and fourth, with 15% and 14% respectively. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Businessman Andrew Yang were tied for fifth with 6%.
21% of Wisconsin Democratic primary voters say Elizabeth Warren is their second choice. She leads in that category.
The public’s opinion on impeachment is little changed from the previous poll. 40% say that Trump did something seriously wrong in his dealings with Ukraine, 14% say he did something wrong but not seriously so, and 37% say Trump did nothing wrong. 9% say they don’t know. In December, 42% said he did something seriously wrong, 9% said it was wrong but not serious, and 37% said he did nothing wrong.
47% approve of the House of Representatives’ vote to impeach Trump, while 49% disapprove and 3% say they don’t know.
