GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Ahead of Sundays NFC Divisional Playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks, tensions are ratcheting up.
Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich is staking Wisconsin’s best on Sunday’s game, making a friendly bet with Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan.
“I’m looking forward to enjoying some Seattle coffee, cheese, and beer,” Mayor Genrich told WTAQ. “And we’re putting up La Java Coffee, Stillmank Beer, and Ron’s Cheese Curds on our end.”
That’s not all that’s going on. This year, both mayors, win or lose, will be volunteering as part of the bet as well.
“We’ve looped in the Green Bay Community Foundation and Paul’s Pantry, where we’re going to be volunteering on January 15th,” said Genrich.
Mayor Durkan will be volunteering at an MLK day event in Seattle. The one catch? The Mayors have to wear the jersey of the winning team while they volunteer. Genrich’s confident he’ll be wearing Green and Gold for every volunteer outing through the playoffs.
“I’m really confident that I’m just going to continue to benefit from what other cities have on offer,” joked Genrich. “We’re very well prepared to do a similar wager with the next team’s mayor.”
