GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A local restaurant is one of the five finalists for a $10,000 contest from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
Chefusion, a restaurant in the Broadway District founded by Chef Robert Phillips and his wife, Cathy, is the only Northeast Wisconsin business that made the final five. He says the money would help with their next goal: a renovation of their facade.
“We’ll also be renovating the tiles downstairs and using an architect that would help us…blend everything together,” Phillips told WTAQ.
The business has doubled in size over the past ten years. Phillips has added a successful catering operation since opening the doors in 2009.
“We’ve more than doubled our business since our first year,” Phillips said. “Each year we’ve had between 20% and 35% growth.”
That growth has matched with growth in the Broadway District. Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation spokesman David Callender says that’s what the Main Street Makeover Contest is all about.
“The finalists are based on their business track record, their vision for their business, and the potential for a makeover to have a positive impact on the main street business district,” said Callender.
The other finalists are based in Beloit, Kenosha, Menomonie, and Shullsburg. The winner is expected to be announced later this month.
