GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The flu is back in Wisconsin, and it’s back early.
The CDC this week moved Wisconsin to a ‘high flu activity’ state, and Brown County is no exception.
“We have, over the last week or two weeks, seen an increase in influenza-like illnesses,” the Brown County Health Department’s Ann Steinberger told WTAQ. “So far this year we’ve received nine reports of hospitalized flu.”
Wisconsin Department of Health Services said Friday that 11 Wisconsinites have already died due to complications from the flu this season. 459 have been hospitalized statewide.
“Get yourself vaccinated if you haven’t received a flu shot,” Steinberger said Friday. “Wash your hands, cover your cough, and if you’re sick, stay home.”
You should be sure to cover your cough with your sleeve instead of your hands and try staying away from those who are sick if possible, according to Steinberger.
The Brown County Health Department, has held several flu clinics this year and are still offering some flu vaccines.
“We still have some flu vaccines left for children, people who have no health insurance, or are on medical assistance,” said Steinberger.
If you haven’t received one yet there are several places in the community that offer them regularly.
