GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Laos Lore is spending his Friday morning stacking crates to protect his generator.
“And hopefully this weekend I don’t have to use it,” he says. He’s preparing in advance of the weekend rain.
Lore lives just off the East River, and flooding is forcing him out of his home.
“I actually, I bought a house already. I’ll be moving on January 3rd. And it’s only maybe three minutes away but it’s away from the East River,” he says, “because of the flooding.”
He’s worried the rain will sit on top of the iced-over river, leaving water with nowhere to go but his basement and driveway.
It’s one of the reasons Brown County emergency management coordinator Sam Martin is keeping a close eye on the forecast.
“In this room, we bring together all the key players from key agencies within the municipalities within the county,” Martin says as he stands in the emergency operations center. “So that there are all these people that have the crucial knowledge together in one room.”
Martin says by having different agencies under one roof, they can help people in need faster.
“Our main purpose is to help the municipalities coordinate any kind of response efforts or recovery efforts for any areas that may experience some kind of flooding or water problems.”
Including homeowners like Lore.
“I honestly think, and this is my opinion, you don’t have a choice,” Lore admits, “You can’t beat mother nature.”
