SEYMOUR, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A local school resource officer is celebrating 40 years with the Seymour Police Department in a delicious way.
Officer Trace Paulson brought 1,300 doughnuts to students and staff at the Seymour School District Wednesday morning.
“I thought this would be a great way to thank the kids,” Paulson said.
It’s Paulson’s first year as a school resource officer, having spent the majority of his 40 year career on the roads.
“I’ve enjoyed being a patrol officer…but this is so rewarding,” said Paulson. “The kids are wonderful [as well as] the teachers.”
Seymour’s Don’s Quality Market and Bakery baked the doughnuts. The irony of a cop giving away doughnuts isn’t lost on Paulson.
“When I work I don’t want the kids and the teachers to fear me or fear the uniform,” “I just want them to respect the rules or the laws.”
Originally, Paulson wanted to give the doughnuts out to everyone in the city of Seymour, but couldn’t figure out how to do it logistically.
Paulson spent the morning delivering the doughnuts between Rock Ledge Intermediate School, Rock Ledge Primary School, and the grade school in Black Creek.
