SEYMOUR, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A close call for a student in Seymour has police talking about the dangers of reckless driving, especially as winter makes a return.
“It was reported about 7:30 this morning we received a report of a reckless driving complaint. A child who was in the crosswalk at the intersection of South Main nearly got hit by an approaching vehicle,” says Seymour Police Chief Isaac Schultz.
It was a scary situation that could have easily been avoided. Schultz says a driver was going way too fast in a school zone and hadn’t bothered to clear his windshield.
There are consequences for driving recklessly. Schultz says the man they stopped received four citations.
“The driver was rushed to get to work, didn’t check his car, had frost on the windshield and had very little visibility, which was a major contributing factor in this incident,” Schultz says, “We cited the driver with an obstructive view because he admitted and even at the time we arrived he had frost on his windshield. We also cited him for having no driver’s license, no insurance, more importantly, failing to obey a school crossing guard.”
Schultz asks drivers to be more attentive, especially around school zones – and to give yourself extra time to get where you’re going.
“I think the message I want to share with our community and people driving in general especially when dropping your kids off to school, just slow down and give yourself enough time because what happened could of been a lot worse,” Schultz says.
