DARBOY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Fox Valley community is honoring Olivia Stoffel who was killed in the 2015 Trestle Trail shooting in Menasha. Olivia would have turned 16 years old on December 7th.
The community is honoring Olivia with random acts of kindness.
“I think this is exactly what we need to do to keep her legacy alive. I didn’t know her personally, I know some of the family but I didn’t know Olivia. But from what I’ve heard and read, she was just a beautiful soul and I think this is a great way to keep her legacy alive,” Patti Rodencal owns the Darboy Corner Store said.
At the Darboy Corner Store, honoring Olivia means buying a meal in advance for someone in need.
Rodencal tells FOX 11 she heard about the plan on the Facebook page “Olivia’s heart.”
“Anyone can donate anything they want. We’ve had people donate change and $50, so anything they want to do is wonderful.”
The kindness has taken off fast.
The Darboy Corner store has gotten more than $500 dollars in just days to pay it forward with a meal. Rodencal says they’re going to continue on with the acts of kindness.
“I definitely was going to keep it as an ongoing thing.”
Rodencal says there will be no questions asked if you need a meal.
“I think in everyone’s life at one point or another someone has been down in their luck, or they know someone who has been down in their luck. And I don’t want anyone to feel bad about having to ask or that they have to share a story. I just don’t want that. If they’re hungry they should be able to have a meal.”
The Darboy Corner Store isn’t the only local business facilitating random acts of kindness. The Fox Crossing Police Department, Whisk & Arrow, and many local residents are just some of the people honoring Olivia.
