GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Brown County has applied for a grant to buy the land of the former Eagles Nest Supper Club to develop a public boat launch.
The 4.66-acre property on Nicolet Drive includes 250 feet of bay frontage and breakwater structure.
On Monday, the county announced it applied for a 50% matching grant from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program.
Brown County parks officials say a new boat launch is needed to create another safe harbor for boaters and to ease capacity at other launches.
The Nicolet Neighborhood Association has opposed the proposed boat launch.
If the property is acquired by Brown County as planned, city ordinance and a country resolution will prohibit the discharge of firearms on the property, and county ordinance will prohibit trapping on the property. The department is proposing that the prohibition of gun hunting and trapping on this property because it is necessary to protect public safety.
Public comments on the proposed land acquisition are being accepted now through Monday, Dec. 30 before the state makes its decision on the grant.
