APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – One of the suspects in a Fox Valley vandalism and arson spree has been convicted.
Brandon Fossum, 17, pleaded no contest Friday to seven charges of criminal damage to property, stealing a vehicle, arson, and endangering safety. Several other counts were dismissed.
Court records show sentencing is scheduled for January 30th.
A second suspect, Kevin Peterson, 19, is scheduled for a plea hearing January 7th. He’s facing 23 charges, including criminal damage to property and arson.
The investigation started when vandalism was discovered at construction sites across the Fox Valley, and when fires damaged elevators in downtown Appleton’s Yellow and Green parking ramps.
Among the sites vandalized were the Fox Cities Champion Center site in Grand Chute, a home in Appleton, and an apartment complex in Little Chute.
The destruction to the Champion Center site included extensive damage to at least five trailers valued at $30,000 apiece. One estimate put the total damage at $2 million.
Court documents also stated Peterson said this all started because the teens were bored one day.
