GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — After a rash of school threats across the state of Wisconsin some officials are calling for tougher penalties for those who threaten schools, including some officials locally.
“There are potentially some better ways to deal with this if legislation was changed,” says Brown County District Attorney Dave Lasee. “Particularly when it’s a direct threat that’s specifically directed at interrupting a school’s ability to carry on with their normal day.”
Brown County District Attorney Dave Lasee. De Pere State Senator Andre Jacque says he thinks some people may not be aware of the consequences of making such threats.
“I think there needs to be an awareness of the penalties that exist,” Jacque told WLUK Fox 11 News. “I don’t know if there’s a silver bullet but I’m always willing to listen to people who have specific ideas.”
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, a Democrat, says he’d like to see some changes to state law.
11 people have been arrested since last Monday’s shooting at a Waukesha High School, which came just a day before another shooting at Oshkosh West High School. Both of those shootings involved school resource officers firing at students.
