FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) — Two more area students are in custody this week for making threats against their high schools, and now police in Oshkosh are investigating a third threat.
Oshkosh Police say the threat against South Park Middle School, which was posted to social media, was deemed not to be credible.
Oshkosh Police Lt. Andrew Leckler says social media threats are difficult to deal with.
“Sometimes it’s difficult to determine whether or not if they’re happening here or somewhere else or what schools they’re talking about,” Leckler told WTAQ. “Because things are being shared and reposted.”
In Fond Du Lac, a 17-year-old male student was arrested after allegedly making a social media post that included a photo of a handgun and a reference to “shooting up the school”.
In a separate incident in Menasha a freshman girl is being held in secure detention after making a social media threat against Menasha High School on Thursday. Police say she made the threat to “get a rise out of people”.
The two threats come the very same week that an Oshkosh West High School 16-year-old was shot by a school resource officer after he stabbed that officer with what police called an ‘edged weapon’.
