APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – As more people shop online, there’s a bigger need for drivers to deliver those packages.
Whether you’re looking for a little extra holiday income, or in need of a permanent job, Jim Golembeski, from the Bay Area Workforce Development Board, tells FOX 11 there are hundreds of open positions for delivery drivers in Brown County.
“There are over 450 job orders in the system looking for someone to deliver. Some are pizza delivery drivers and others are going to require a certified license to deliver packages and other sorts of things.”
Golembeski said getting a Commercial Driver’s License is pretty easy, Fox Valley Technical College is just one institution in the area that offers training for students.
“Enrollment is actually up now. They were down in the past but they’re up and we offer a few courses and they’re all full,” said Instructor Sam Eustice.
With the demand for drivers at an all-time high, Eustice tells FOX 11 many Fox Valley Tech students will be on the roads in just a matter of weeks.
“The need is up and down the line right now and that wasn’t always the case in the past. Everyone is trying to recruit drivers, it’s a good time to become a driver because there is a lot of opportunities.”
Especially with a lot of local companies looking to hire drivers before the holiday, Eustice said many workers have the potential to make some good money.
“Local type jobs tend to be by the hour and that can range a lot, it just depends on the work. But if you want to make good money and you’re ambitious, the opportunities are out there.”
