OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Oshkosh School District would move from 20 buildings to 14 if recommendations from the Facilities Advisory Committee are followed.
The school board will discuss the proposal at a meeting tonight.
According to the study panel, the district should “Adopt a long-term consolidation pathway which would serve students through nine elementary, three middle, and two high schools – rather than the 20 facilities currently in operation.”
The district currently has two high schools, six middle schools, and 15 elementary schools. The total includes charter schools within other schools.
Also, a two-part referendum for April is recommended:
Safety / Security Updates at District Facilities: Enhance security efforts including entrances, interior doors, and additional technologyImmediate Building Infrastructure and Maintenance: Replace roof sections and update electrical systems at some existing schoolsAt the end of the 2018-2019 school year, the district closed Smith Elementary School, citing the building’s deteriorating condition.
The school board meets at 6 p.m. at the administration office, 215 S. Eagle Street.
