FOX CROSSING, WI (WTAQ) — It may seem inconcievable, but a Fox Crossing man ended up in handcuffs last month after texting a quote from the comedy film “The Princess Bride” to his ex-wife.
“Good night… Good work. Sleep well. I’ll most likely kill you in the morning,” is what the man reportedly texted on November 23rd, while allegedly drunk, to his ex-wife, who was also allegedly drunk.
That line, spoken by Cary Elwes as Westley in the 1987 movie adaptation of the 1973 novel by William Goldman, was apparently misinterpreted as a threat. The miscommunication led to an argument and ultimately, the man’s arrest, according to Fox Crossing Police Officer Dan Wiechman.
“Because it met Wisconsin’s domestic abuse mandatory arrest criteria, he was booked and released,” Wiechman told WTAQ.
Wisconsin’s domestic abuse laws allow for the immediate release of an offender after booking if the arresting officer is satisified that no grounds exist to issue a criminal complaint.
The man’s name was not released.
