GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The holiday season is here, and people are looking to find the perfect Christmas trees this year.
Hunting down a tree with the right height and thickness can be a difficult task. Most families wait until the tryptophan wears off, but Cheryl Nicholson with the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association says recent weather has gotten people moving.
“Customers have been interested in trees already, wanting to get stuff, wanting to get wreaths. Because it’s been so cold and we got that little bit of snow, everyone got into the mood for it,” Nicholson says.
A little snow on the ground can make the experience even more of a memorable adventure, but nobody really wants to be like the Griswold family.
“A little bit of snow is nice because it makes it cheery and fun. If you get a foot of snow, it makes a bit of a hindrance so people aren’t going to go as far to get a tree,” Nicholson tells WTAQ News, “if we get a lot of snow, the cut-your-own farms may not be busy for a day or two until everything is cleared and plowed. But those people, if it’s a weekend, may end up going to a retail lot, so the retail lots become busier.”
Even with Thanksgiving being a few days later than usual this year, Nicholson isn’t too concerned about a drop in the harvest.
“Wisconsin harvests about 700,000 trees every year, wholesale and cut-your-own, so I’m expecting it to be about the same,” Nicholson says.
Nicholson also pushes the purchase of real trees over manufactured trees because of the economic impact on local levels and the support it provides to Wisconsin families.
