CALDWELL COUNTY, MO (WTAQ) – Missouri authorities confirm they have recovered and identified the remains of two Shawano County brothers.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office says Nick Diemel’s remains were found on a farm in their county, while his brother Justin’s were found in a livestock trailer in Lincoln County, Nebraska. Investigators say dental records confirmed their identities.
Earlier this week, a rancher in Nebraska reported he found human remains in a large tub of dirt, inside a stock trailer he recently purchased in Missouri. Police say a partially-burnt credit card still displayed Diemel’s name.
The Diemels were reported missing July 21. They had been at Garland “Joey” Nelson’s farm in northwestern Missouri on a trip related to their cattle business.
Court documents say they went there to collect a $250,000 check. Nelson allegedly shot and killed the brothers, and burned their bodies.
Nelson faces a series of charges, including two counts of first-degree murder.
