DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) – The St. Norbert College Board of Trustees held a special meeting Thursday to discuss the decision by the college’s president not to renew his contract.
Brian Bruess’s decision was announced earlier this month, prompting student protests, rumors, and resignations by trustees.
Bruess and school officials have said the resignation was due to differences in the vision for the future of the college.
The decision is being praised by St. Norbert Students and Alumni, including the President of the Alumni Association, Grace Meyer .
“The fact that they were willing to come together and have another conversation and then [come to] this result…really speaks to the fact that they listened to the feedback with an open heart and an open mind,” Meyer told WTAQ on Friday.
The following is a statement from the SNC Board of Trustees and SNC President Brian Bruess:
Following a special board meeting yesterday, the St. Norbert College Board of Trustees voted to approve a multi-year contract extension with President Bruess, which has been approved by Abbot Dane Radecki.
The joint statement below, from the Board and President Bruess, was distributed this morning to SNC students, faculty, staff, alumni and the college community:
Dear St. Norbert Community:
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns over the past three weeks. The board met yesterday and had an open and productive discussion about the future of St. Norbert College. The board voted to approve a multi-year contract extension with President Bruess.
The Trustees are grateful for the outpouring of support for the College and President Bruess’ leadership. We have heard from students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends who love this College and care deeply about its future. We have much work to do, but today we move forward confident in our leadership, united in our vision for the future of our college, and grounded in our Catholic, Norbertine, and liberal arts traditions.
Sincerely,St. Norbert College Board of Trustees and President Brian Bruess
