MILWAUKEE, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network-WSAU) — The owner of a Popeye’s fast-food restaurant in Milwaukee says seven employees there have been fired for fighting after a brawl was captured by a customer’s cell phone.
Witnesses said several employees of the restaurant were throwing punches, but it isn’t clear what started the fisticuffs. Police were called to the restaurant. Arriving officers said no weapons were used and no arrests were made.
The customer who filmed the incident, Richard Fourté, said he realized tensions were running high among employees there. He said someone yelled “it’s a fight,” and he took out his phone and began filming. Several customers said the fight stopped briefly when the workers realized they were being filmed, and started up again a short time later in the kitchen area.
A statement from the owner John Brodersen said: “This was an unfortunate, isolated incident which we take very seriously. The dining room was closed immediately after the altercation at 9:30 PM. As a result of this, 7 employees were terminated from the company, including the manager on duty.”
