MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – The state Attorney General’s office is receiving an extension, giving it more time to respond to Steven Avery’s latest appeal.
In the appeal filed last month, Avery’s attorney questioned a series of decisions by Sheboygan County Judge Angela Sutkiewicz.
The state now has until February 11th to file its arguments.
No hearings have been scheduled.
Avery continues to appeal his conviction for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach.
Avery’s nephew Brendan Dassey was also convicted. His appeals have all been denied. He recently asked Gov. Tony Evers for a pardon, but that has not been ruled on.
Avery and Dassey’s cases received worldwide attention with the 2015 release of “Making A Murderer” on Netflix. The series calls into question the process investigators used to convict the men.
