ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Ashwaubenon village leaders say some temporary ‘no parking’ signs have been disappearing on Packers game days.
To help make the Lambeau Field neighborhood more walkable on game days, Ashwaubenon reevaluated its parking restrictions before this season.
Allison Swanson, Ashwaubenon Village Manager, tells FOX 11 that included taking down permanent signs reading ‘no parking on Lambeau Field event days.’
“That was very confusing because there are a lot of small events and large events at Lambeau Field. The parking was not consistently applied depending on the size of the event.”
With an ordinance change, the village decided to put up temporary no parking signs, when needed, was the way to go.
“It’s really about trying to facilitate traffic getting out after game day and maximizing the capacity of the roads,” said Swanson.
But she says the signs are apparently being taken.
“I think in maybe some cases people are trying to get a closer spot and nobody is going to notice if the sign is gone. Maybe they also just don’t appreciate the emergency situation it presents and what it does to the overall traffic flow.”
When the signs have disappeared, village leaders say parked cars have piled up where they shouldn’t. However, Swanson says no tickets have been issued.
“We’d end up with unhappy customers that have parked cars and didn’t realize they couldn’t park there, so it was leading to a lot of issues.”
As a result, the village will vote on another ordinance change to bring back permanent signs, specific to game days.
“Then if we still have to do it at some of the larger, special events, we’ll go back and post those specifically for what our needs are for that day,” said Swanson.
The village says permanent signs will also allow workers to spend time on other services, rather than replacing the temporary signs.
The Public Works & Protection Committee will take up the ordinance change at its meeting today.
