DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) – The president of St. Norbert College is stepping down.
Brian Bruess announced in an email Friday morning that he will not be renewing his contract.
The 1990 St. Norbert graduate took over in 2017 as just the second alumnus to serve in that position. Bruess will complete the 2019-2020 school year.
Bruess’ time has been filled with some controversy, after a group of students and staff raised concerns over the college’s handling of sexual assault reports on campus. School leaders say an independent investigation concluded the school has solid policies for handling sexual violence, but the investigator disputed that conclusion.
Bruess has said the investigation has no weight on his decision to step down.
During his tenure, St. Norbert also received the largest donation in school history of $30 million from the Donald and Patricia Schneider family. There were also announcements its sports teams would move to a new conference next year.
