GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – There is still no word on construction at Green Bay’s Watermark Building, but Foxconn was back in town this week recruiting more college students and young professionals to join the team.
Foxconn received billions in state tax breaks on the promise they would deliver at least 13,000 jobs at manufacturing and research facilities around the state, including here in Green Bay. Despite questions swirling around the planned downtown innovation center, NWTC President Jeff Rafn is optimistic about his student’s futures.
“This is an opportunity for our students in a variety of careers. We have students in accounting, human resources, electromechanical, this is a chance for them to get in on something that will be brand new,” Rafn says, “They’re expecting students to start working in January so they must have someplace for them to work. I’m sure they won’t be in tents.”
Students seem to share the optimism, as recent NWTC graduate Brenda Thompson says she’ll go where the work takes her.
Thompson says “I really don’t have an idea of where I would be working, but I would like to stay in the Green Bay area. However, I would be open to traveling to meet those requirements.”
Green Bay economic development director Kevin Vonck believes the company will file plans and begin renovating the Watermark next year.
