APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The City of Appleton is dedicating a mural that celebrates its long relationship with the paper industry.
The “Paper Wings” mural is on a wall along the North Island trail. Deputy Director of Appleton Parks and Recreation Tom Flick says it’s just another step in developing the riverfront.
The mural honors Frank Weinkauf, a former superintendent of the Wisconsin Tissue paper company in Appleton who later served ten years as a city alderman. It features origami birds, along with birds that are native to the region or migrate through the area.
