LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WTAQ) – The Fox Valley Metro Police Department is asking for help after officers say a dog attacked a 9-year-old, leaving them with serious injuries to their face and arms. The child was attacked Sunday afternoon in Little Chute while playing football in a field near the intersection of East North Avenue and Buchanan Street.
Lieutenant Mark Wery says “there were some puncture wounds to the face, which required some stitches. We haven’t received an update on their condition, but they were taken to a local hospital last night where they were treated.”
Wery also expressed concern about the investigation, because “without actually locating this animal, it’s going to be pretty tough. We’re basing our description off the kids that were there.”
The dog is brown with a black snout, short tail and folded ears. Wery hopes someone will recognize the dog being in the area at the time and come forward.
“It’s kind of a hail Mary, but we’re hoping says ‘hey look, I have a dog that matches that description, I live in the area, and my dog was out loose and unaccounted for roughly during that time,’” says Wery.
After the department put out the word about the incident on social media, people came out arguing against police as they search for the dog.
Wery explains that many commenters were “people being concerned that all law enforcement is looking to do is put an animal down. That narrative just isn’t true. Just because there is a bite or an attack doesn’t necessarily mean the animal is going to be destroyed.”
Anyone with further information about the dog should contact the Fox Valley Metro Police Department.
