GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – After more than a year of construction, the Community First Champion Center in Grand Chute is on track and has its grand opening in mid-November. The $30 million project was delayed several times.
Despite the obstacles, Grand Chute community development director Bob Buckingham tells FOX 11 things are moving in the right direction.
“We’re very pleased to report that the project is coming in on time and at or slightly under budget.”
This season’s record amount of rain caused delays in construction– but a January vandalism spree set them back by more than two weeks.
“The weather hasn’t been great, but Miron Construction and all the subcontractors have been amazing to work with and work through the challenges we’ve had over the past few months,” Matt Ten Haken from the Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau said.
The facility will have basketball courts, volleyball courts, ice rinks, and areas for gymnastics and wrestling.
With kids competing, Ten Haken tells FOX 11 come families watching.
“Visiting teams from across the Midwest will be coming in on weekends.”
Which means more tourism for the Fox Valley.
“We’re really excited to welcome all those new teams and athletes and families to the area.”
They anticipate hiring 45 to 55 full and part-time staff members for the facility. Original estimates from the Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau say there will be an economic impact of $8.9 million in the first year.
There will be a job fair for part-time opportunities at the complex on October 21st at the Grand Chute Holiday Inn on Greenville Drive from 4 to 7 p.m.
