FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – It’s Fire Prevention Week for all, but this years message may be more intentional for Fond Du Lac Fire.
“This year’s Fire Prevention Week will have a greater significance than it has in the past.”There have been four fatalities from fire in Fond Du Lac in 2019.
Chief Peter O’Leary says a group home fire that killed three people last month is a driving force for their prevention message this year.
“Nobody is exempt from fire and it can happen to anyone of us any day.”
He says their mission is no fires and certainly no deaths, but this week they want everyone to be prepared for the unknown.
“We will continue to do what we do every year and go out to the schools and have our open house.”
Along with that, they will continue to make sure every home has access to smoke detectors.
“More people will probably want to travel to our open house and talk to firefighters.”
He says many have reached out with support after the dreadful day and this week is a reminder of what they do.
“We are not resting easy.”
