SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) – A man who attacked a Shawano County Deputy last year will spend time behind bars.
A jury convicted 45-year-old Chad Kohel of battery to a law enforcement officer and strangulation.
Police say Kohel attacked Deputy Sandra Finger outside of ThedaCare Medical Center last July.
According to the criminal complaint, a blood draw was performed after Kohel was arrested for his third OWI.
According to Finger, Kohel grabbed her around the neck and she nearly lost consciousness. Other officers came to her aid.
Kohel said she grabbed him in the groin, but that was not viewed on the body camera video footage.
He will serve three years for each of the counts and they were ordered to be served consecutively. Kohel was also placed on extended supervision, fined $4,026 dollars and had his driver’s license suspended for 31 months.
