APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A new recycling company contract in Outagamie County brings in new trucks and new ideas for recycling.
Outagamie County will continue to work with Orion Waste Solutions for the next seven years.
While it is the same company, County Recycling and Resource Recovery Administrator Joanne Gorski says the contract comes with new services.
“They are doing lid-lift studies to help us determine how well our residents are recycling.”
She says there is also a feature on the trucks that prevent litter.
“There is a feature that when the wind is blowing and they are trying to unload the recycling into the truck, it prevents the garbage from falling out and ending up in the yards.
They are also going to be looking at common problems, including education on the importance of keeping plastic bags out of the recycling bins.
“If you put those in your recycle bin they are going to go through our processing unit and plug up our equipment,” she said. “If they are putting things in the bin that should not be in the bin, what are those things and how can we prevent that from coming to our recycling facility?”
The new contract will go into effect on April 1.
