APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Appleton’s United States Post Office is going pink for the month of October.
It’s to help raise money for breast cancer research.
Throughout the month, visitors will notice lots of pink decorations in the lobby. Employees are even trading their usual attire for pink clothes.
Appleton’s Postmaster, Ryan Schulz, is hoping it will encourage customers to purchase Breast Cancer Research Forever stamps.
While they cost 10 cents more than regular stamps, the extra cost goes toward breast cancer research.
Schulz says it’s a great cause.
“Statistics say 1 in 8 people are affected by breast cancer so virtually everybody knows somebody that has been affected by it,” he said. “It really touches a lot of people. You hear a lot of stories when people come in and a lot of people don’t realize we sell this stamp, so when they purchase the stamps, now every time they mail a letter, they feel like they’re helping.”
Schulz has a friendly wager with the Appleton community. His goal is to sell at least 30,000 Breast Cancer Research Forever stamps during the month of October. If the goal is met, he says he will dye his hair pink for all of November.
That is a bet, Schulz says, he will gladly lose.
