FOND DU LAC, WI ( WTAQ) – Improper disposal of a cigarette is believed to have caused a fatal fire last week at a Group Home in Fond Du Lac.
Fond Du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says it was an accidental fire.
“We don’t believe that the person did it with the intention of starting the place on fire, so that is why it is an accident.”
Even though it was an accident, O’Leary says it did not have to happen.
“Quite frankly these kinds of fires are all 100 percent preventable.”
He says the investigation turned up video that showed smoke starting in the porch area.
Officials also released the names of the victims, 24-year-old Taylor Lavallee, 53-year-old Lisa Eastham, and 72-year-old Donna Frederick were all on the second floor and it is believed that they died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
