GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The summer of 2019 will be one for the history books for the National Weather Service.
“It was a summer with a lot of rain and two significant bouts of severe weather.”
Jeff Last of the National Weather Service says that pretty much sums it up
Floodwaters were a concern for much of the summer.
“It ended up the 13th wettest summer on record, he said. “We set the wettest September ever in Green Bay with a little over 8 inches of rain just in September alone.”
Last says this is the second year that Green Bay had record rainfall
In the category of Severe Weather, July 19 and 20th winds and tornados caused a lot of damage.
Hundreds of thousands of trees were snapped or uprooted and many buildings were damaged.
“Those were two significant events and any one of those would be a big event for a year and we had two in a row.”
When it comes to temperatures, Last says they were moderate.
“We noticed that overnight low temperatures were a bit higher than usual and that is because of the extensive cloud cover throughout the summer.”
He says daytime highs were a little on the cooler side.
