FOX CITIES, WI (WTAQ) – The Community First Fox Cities Marathon has been canceled Sunday morning because of lightning.
Amanda Secor, a Fox Cities Marathon organizer tells FOX 11 the event will not be rescheduled, and refunds will not be given.
“The thing that’s most difficult about decisions like this is not the work that we’ve put into it. It’s the work that they put into it. As a nonprofit organization, the budget is a really important consideration for us. And at this point in the race and in the event planning, all of our expenses have been incurred.”
About 4,500 runners were supposed to begin the half and full marathon races at 7:00 a.m.
Organizers say this is their first time canceling the marathon from the start in its 29 years.
Fox Cities Marathon will be offering today’s runners $30 off next year’s registration.
Participants in this year’s Fox Cities Marathon can earn their medal by running their registered distance and submitting their information to the Community First Fox Cities Marathon website.
