PESHTIGO, WI (WTAQ) – The death of a woman in Marinette County is under investigation. It is not suspicious in nature, but Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Suave says it is strange.
“I have been in the business for 35 years and I really have never seen anything like this.”
Charges of failing to report a death and hiding a corpse are being recommended against the woman’s daughter 60-year-old Paula Bergold.
“Someone had knowledge of her death some time ago, so that is a problem because the law requires you to report any death.”
The death investigation of 89-year-old Ruby Bergold this week started like most do, with welfare checks at the woman’s residence.
“So we were over there on two occasions to try to do a welfare check. We got in the house and found the old lady deceased.”
He says what makes this death investigation interesting is the timeframe between death and being found.
“The person was deceased for some time” in the house before that death was reported to us.”
No other details about the investigation have been released.
