ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Professional wrestling took over the turf field at Capital Credit Union Park in Ashwaubenon Friday night.
The event is one of many that Big Top Baseball has scheduled for the stadium this fall.
Big Top Baseball leases the new $14 million stadium and owns the stadium’s main tenant, the Green Bay Booyah.
The wrestling event, called Base Brawl, drew about 100 fans.
It’s just one way Big Top Baseball is trying to prove it no longer has an offseason in the Green Bay market with the new Ashwaubenon stadium.
“I mean obviously compared to the summer when you have 36 baseball games, 10 soccer games, things get a little hectic, so it is still calm compared to that, but there is still everything,” said Taylor Howe, a marketing and promotions manager for the Booyah.
“I think all our weekends are booked up through the fall and into the winter.”
The wrestling is a unique event, as was a craft beer fest held two weeks ago.
However, Howe tells FOX 11 more consistent events include weekly rugby games, meetings, and events in the Verhalen Club, and field rentals starting at 100 dollars an hour with a three-hour minimum.
“St. Norbert’s women’s soccer was here. Rugby is always here. We have a Hispanic soccer league championship out here. Just lots of stuff like that. Anybody who needs a grass and turf field can come out.”
As for the stadium’s main tenant, the Green Bay Booyah, the team brought in 60,023 fans this year. The average attendance per game was 1,667 people.
That’s an average of 437 more fans per game compared to last season when the squad played its last season at Joannes Stadium.
“It’s fun,” said Howe. “I mean this is a much prettier place to be, much more fun to watch baseball at and a soccer team. We love it here.”
The Village of Ashwaubenon owns the stadium. It’s being paid for through the lease with Big Top Baseball and from tax revenue from new development in the area.
