APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The city of Appleton is getting national recognition, making one magazine’s list of best places to live in America.
Becky Bartoszek, CEO, and president of the Fox Cities Chamber tells FOX 11 it makes sense to her.
“As a community, we have so much growth in the area, and as a community, we are working together to make this an attractive place for people to live.”
Money magazine created its list this year based on population, crime statistics, median household income and diversity of residents.
Almost 1,800 cities fit the criteria, but only three Wisconsin cities — Madison, Waukesha, and Appleton — made the top 100.
Bartoszek says this isn’t the first time Appleton was recognized as a top city to live in; it placed 56th on a list of 100 best places to live by livability.com back in March.
“We have one of the lowest crime rates, a great cost of living compared to other places, and we have all the services and amenities that you would experience in a large town.”
Appleton ranked 89th on the list and was recognized for its economic growth over the years. With a population of 76,760, the median household income is a little more than $60,000 and job growth is projected at 4%.
“Historically our unemployment rate has been low but it’s definitely lower than we’ve seen it in a long time,” explained Bartoszek.
But there are still some areas where city leaders hope to make improvements and believe they will make Appleton an even greater place to play, work and live.
