GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Hobart man has pleaded guilty in federal court to selling drugs on the “dark web.”
Prosecutors say, Christopher D. Bania, 25, sold drugs nationwide in exchange for cryptocurrency. Among the drugs Bania pleaded guilty to selling are MDMA (“Ecstasy”), cocaine, DMT, ketamine, LSD, MDA, methaqualone, and marijuana.
Investigators say the “dark web” is an area of the internet that is unreachable by traditional search engines and web browsers. Users need special software to access it.
Bania faces up to 20 years in prison, a $1 million fine and three years to life on supervised release when he is sentenced December 9th.
He will also give up $1.5 million worth of cryptocurrency and $85,000 in cash previously seized by the government.
