OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – A new smartphone app may be able to connect residents with on-duty officers.
The app will debut in Wisconsin when the Oshkosh Police Department starts using it October 1.
Oshkosh Police Department is testing out the app called Relay for the next six months.
“Once people submit the information about the incident, it will go right to the officer’s squad car computer and to their phone.”
Officer Kate Mann says it cuts out the middle person in non-emergencies.
“The goal of this new app is to have people reporting things in real time to officers.”
She says that will lead to quicker responses. It includes options for text and photos, but there is a time that it should not be used.
“It should not be used as a replacement for 911. We want them to call 911 in an emergency.
“Maybe a suspicious person or a hazard or things of that nature that would fit under a non-emergency.”
The app can be downloaded at the Apple App Store, Android Google Play Store or at relayapp.com.
