GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – One person is in custody as Green Bay police respond to an unverified email threat against Notre Dame Academy from a non-Notre Dame student Thursday.
Green Bay Police say the threat came from a 13-year-old juvenile.
“That threat was basically saying that there is going to be a shooting today at Notre Dame.”
Police Chief Andrew Smith says the threat was not carried out and no weapons were found, but it is a crime regardless.
“Certinatly he is responsible enough to bear the consequences of his actions.”
The threat was brought to the attention of police early Thursday morning.
Both the High School and nearby Franklin Middle School were put on lockdown.
Chief Smith says the school had everything in place to keep their building safe.
“The Notre Dame folks did a great job with this. It was like clockwork when I got there.”
Smith says officers arrived at the school within 3 minutes of the call and he arrived to speak with the principal within 11 minutes. Officers also went to the suspect teen’s residence soon after the call.
“The individual is going to be spending some time incarcerated because of this and we are looking to file charges against him on the basis of making a terrorist threat.”
The motive of the threat was not clear.
Smith says having a threat in the first week of school is disturbing.
“It really detracts what we are there for. We are there to get an education.”

Dear NDA Parents and Guardians,
Thanks to the Green Bay Police Department for their immediate and professional assistance as this morning we were made aware of an email threat to Notre Dame Academy by a non-Notre Dame Academy student. The authorities were notified immediately, and the school was placed in a level-two lockdown. Parents were notified, and a quick investigation ensued. We are pleased to report that school is back in session. The threat was found to be not credible, and the individual is in police custody.
This situation reinforces the importance of the grant provided by the Department of Justice funds which assisted us in controlling access to the building and securing our main entrance.
As always, student safety remains our highest priority.
Best always,Patrick Browne.
