FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – Fond Du Lac School is still trying to track down a missing class pet.
“Besides death, snakes are right up there on the phobia list for people.”
A python that got loose over the Labor Day weekend is causing quite the stir at Fond Du Lac High School. Principal Matthew Steinbarth says classes have continued, but not without an uneasy feeling.
“We have tried to educate as many people as possible that the snake’s defense mechanism is to curl up in a ball and not lash out at people.”
He says because of that and the fact that they are nocturnal, where it is hiding, it will likely not make an appearance during the school day.
He says they have enlisted the help of experts to track it down.
“We had experts come in and help us search.
Steinbarth says they have learned a lot about snakes and it truly has become an educational moment.
Steinbarth says they believe the snake is inside the science room ventilation hood, and that would require them to take it apart to find it.
He says they would like to solve this quickly because even though it is getting national attention, it could be dangerous for the snake and some students could use the ease of mind.
