GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A first look was given at the new Baird Elementary School in Green Bay
The school was built to fix a common concern.
“We are limited on the number of students that we can even have in the room that can move safely about.”
Principal Michael Scheean said they were forced to address overcrowding because it also impacted the student’s ability to learn.
Scheean says the 16 month construction period was on the fast track and is now complete.
“It is just a unique opportunity that I have experienced.”
The approval for the school was given by a yes vote in April of 2017 and taxpayers are seeing the result of their $68 million dollar support.
“We had a number of neat pictures with people who decided to show up for the first time. It is pure amazement.”
Executive Director of Facilities for the district Mike Stangel says the project was on the fast track for completion because the need was high.”The old school was about 45,000 square feet and this one is just a little over 100,000 square feet so it is just a little more than double the size of the old school.”
The first day of school will be next Tuesday.
