OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A state prison employee was convicted for a standoff with police and placed probation two years.
33-year-old Daniel Maher pleaded no contest in Neenah Monday to failing to comply with an order to be taken into custody. Two other charges, including threatening an officer, were dropped, court records show.
According to the criminal complaint, Maher was intoxicated and threatening to harm his girlfriend, so others in the house called police on February 13th. The girlfriend left and met with officers. Police then called the house.
“Maher refused to go outside and stated that he would shoot anyone that came into his house,” the complaint states.
Police eventually entered the home and took him into custody. A search resulted in the discovery of a rifle, shotgun, and ammunition.
Maher was a correctional sergeant at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution at the time of the incident. He had been placed on administrative leave.
