GREENVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Fox Valley Humane Association is making a plea for help. If it doesn’t receive financial assistance, it may need to shut down or begin euthanizing animals, according to executive director Vicki Prey and Kathryn Carlson, president of the board of directors.
The humane association has more than 300 cats and 100 dogs in need of homes. The shelter is at capacity and asks that the community rally together to donate and adopt animals.
“All the animals are getting the care that they need,” Prey said.
“However, everything is moving in slow motion. It’s taking them much longer in a day to care for all the animals that we have because they want to make sure that every animal gets exactly what it needs,” she said.
Recently, the association has had an increase in strays and unclaimed animals. A drop in donations and sponsorships have caused the association’s financial burden, Carlson said.
According to data given by Prey, the association is operating with almost $200,000 less than what they budgeted for the year. The board of directors donated more than $85,000 in the last three months to keep the association running, Prey said.
Donations are important, but adopting can help ease the financial burden too.
“They get basic care but they don’t have anyone to love them. They’re living in cages or rooms or offices or something. And that’s not a life that anybody wants,” Carlson said.
Overcrowding is big enough of a concern that they may have to resort into euthanizing animals if they cannot find homes for the animals.
More information about pet adoptions and donating can be found on FVHA’s website.
They also have a GoFundMe page, which you can find here.
