MISSOURI, WI (WTAQ) – The man at the center of the disappearance of two Shawano County brothers had his preliminary hearing delayed. The new date is September 16th.
Garland “Joey” Nelson is facing charges for tampering with the brother’s rental vehicle. That charge stems from allegations that 25-year-old Garland Nelson drove the rented truck from his farm to a commuter parking lot where it was found and court hearing will determine if there’s enough evidence to try him.
Officials are calling the case a death investigation, but the bodies haven’t been found.
Investigators have located humane remains on the property, but the identity has not been confirmed.
Nick and Justin Diemel from Shawano County were on a trip related to their cattle business when they disappeared in July after visiting Nelson. The brothers are the owner/operators of Diemel Livestock LLC in Bonduel.
Nelson remains jailed without bond.
Nick and Justin Diemel were reported missing on July 21st when they missed their flight home from a two-day business trip to Missouri.
A Missouri cattleman who worked with the suspect in the disappearance of the Diemels two Wisconsin brothers says he has no doubt the man could harm someone.
Rancher John Gingrich told a Kansas City television station that Joey Nelson starved a few hundred cattle on his land in the months before the Diemel brothers went missing on his farm.
Gingrich says he confronted Nelson about the dead and dying animals, and there were some heated words.
That’s when he said he knew that Nelson was dangerous.
