GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay spent Monday helping get kids ready for back to school
On Monday, the Salvation Army provided donated school supplies for families that pre-registered for their Tools for Schools program.
“You can pick whatever backpack you would like,” volunteers told families that came in Monday.
Nan Pahl is the Director of Social Services for the Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay and said the program makes quite the difference.
“We are providing about 800 children with school supplies. Everything we have here is new and it was donated or purchased specifically for this program.”
It includes students grades Kindergarten through 12th Grade and is open for families who are in need of a little help to get the school year started.
“They are probably working but they just are not able to make ends meet when you have to include new clothes, new shoes, and all those school supplies.”
Through the program, students are able to get backpacks, folders, notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, glue, scissors, erasers, things like that, Pahl added.
“Our goal is to help with basics and the families can then use what resources they have to look to those extra things specific to each child.”
She said that could include items like things involving computers, calculators or headphones, depending on the grade level.Money for the program came from campaigns like the Red Kettle around Christmas time.
