The Wisconsin GLO ran the table to a title.
The expansion women’s professional team from Oshkosh defeated the Flint Monarchs 80-78 at the Menomonie Nation Arena Sunday to win the Global Womens Basketball Association championship and capped a perfect 14-0 season.
The team made up of former state college standouts didn’t play many close games until the last one, routing the Music City Icons 106-48 in the semifinals on Saturday. But Flint was the three time defending league champion and they gave the GLO all they could handle.
Former Wisconsin Badger Taylor Wurtz scored a game high 18 points and hit a big three pointer in the final minute to give the GLO a 4 point lead. Flint answered with a three and Jolene Anderson made one of two free throws to give Wisconsin the 80-78 lead. Wurtz then came up with a steal on Flint’s final possession before the clock expired.
Jessica Lindstrom, the ex-Green Bay Phoenix standout was named the playoff’s most valuable player.
